Izora and the Eternal Depths
Izora took a deep breath before diving, her heart almost leaping out of her chest, excited for yet another exploration of the eternal depths.
This wasn't her first time swimming that deep. She had gone there a few times before, and she had loved doing so; seeing the unusual creatures that lived down there, the amazing bio-luminescence that was the sole provided of “light” in such a dark place, always amazed her.
She smiled as she realized that she was reaching the darkest part of the ocean, the Eternal Depths. Several playful Tiburoks swam nearby, quickly followed by a couple of Dextroluma children, who were obviously playing with their Tiburok friends, making Izora smile at their playful antics.
As she continued to descend, she smiled even more when her pet Whazer, named Oceanea, approached her and began to play with her as she swam around Izora and nudging her with her snout playfully. Izora began scratching Oceanea under her muzzle, something that the Whazer loved, causing the pet to roll on herself, while emitting some sounds that Izora recognized as “happy sounds”.
The two of them continued to descend, sometimes with Oceanea getting protective of Izora against one fish or Tiburok that swam too close for the Whazer's taste, and then Izora smiled as she reached her favorite part of the Eternal Depths, a small place where a medium group of bio-luminescent plants were gathered.
She loved that place for a single reason: she could hide and play among the plants while enjoying their bioluminescence and feeling like a being that she had read on a book about human myths, a mermaid. She knew that being a Dextroluma made her pretty close to what humans called mermaids, but she couldn't help but wish that she could have a fish tail and live completely underwater and free of any social constraints, like a fish. Sure, there were Dextrolumas who lived underwater, but in her mind, it wasn't the same thing. And attending the Seashell Soiree in the Eternal Palace only made that conviction stronger. Still, she decided to forget all of that for now and enjoy her time there, happily playing with her pet and friend Oceanea, swimming among the plants trying to catch one another, her worries forgotten at least for a moment.
