Eclipse Gala

“The Eclipse Gala?” Jane was in the process of removing her coat and hat after just arriving back to Providence from the Red Cutlass. Hydra had been eagerly awaiting her arrival, not even waiting until Jane took her boots off to ask her if they could attend the upcoming event. 

“It’s being held next week,” Hydra explained, “I was thinking we could make a date of it. We could dress up and dance, watch the eclipse, visit the Crystal Isles for the first time…” As excited as Hydra was, she was also clearly nervous as she waited anxiously for Jane’s answer due to how desperately she wanted to go. Hydra had mentioned wanting to attend the gala once before shortly after they had met, but back then it wasn’t in the cards.

Jane studied Hydra carefully as she pondered whether to allow this outing or not. It sounded like a headache to be around so many people, many of whom would be rich nobility, but Hydra was being affectionate and obedient lately… she was certainly due for a reward. “Alright,” Jane finally agreed, “we’ll go.” 

Relief and excitement washed over Hydra as she nearly leapt forward to wrap her arms around Jane in a sweet hug. “Thank you!” 

Jane smiled as she returned the embrace, though she gripped Hydra perhaps a little too tightly, her posture possessive… she was pleased that their relationship was finally returning to the way it used to be. For that, she could tolerate at least one annoying party.

Now that it was the day of the gala, Hydra was determined not to squander this chance that Jane was giving her. She had continued to be a loving partner throughout the week and shared a bed with Jane each night, as well as conversing and engaging with her frequently when she was home. 

And tonight, she would further mend their relationship. Hydra had spent nearly the entire day getting ready for the gala, from picking her dress, to applying makeup, to curling parts of her hair. She was also wearing the set of lingerie that Jane liked seeing her in the most, but that was to be a surprise for when they returned home. 

“You ready?” Jane raised an eyebrow as Hydra finally emerged from the bathroom that she had spent hours getting ready in. 

Hydra gave her a small peck on the cheek as an apology for making her wait. “I’m ready.”

Their time at the gala was similar to most: dancing, drinking, and socializing (though Hydra was careful to not spend too long talking to any one person, lest she upset Jane). 

When it was nearly time for the eclipse, most of the attendees flocked to the balconies to watch the sky, but Jane and Hydra instead found themselves in a quiet part of one of the furthest gardens so they could share a private moment together. 

As the moon passed over the sun and the sky darkened, Hydra took Jane’s cheeks in her hands and pressed their lips together in a soft, intimate kiss... a promise of more to come.
