5. Trains
"Hmmm... no, that's not it", Guinivere said slowly, crossing her arms as she inspected the design before her.
The white fabric draped on the mannequin before her was already pinned into a beautiful silhouette and she was satisfied with how the front turned. But the back... the back was a problem. The commissioning bride-to-be had requested a figure-hughing dress with a dramatic train. But she also wanted to be able to dance and move freely. Of course this could be solved with a loop on the skirt so that the wearer could lift it up while having her hand free. But that work best for big ballgown dresses. For the design in front of her, that solution created fold that contradicted the already established folds and flow of the dress that enhanced the silhouette.
"What if we made it detachable?", Stella suggested, joining her boss in the pondering stance.
"But not with a belt", Guinivere decided and began to rearrange the fabric, tucking away the former train into pleats that now added hidden volume to the skirt, while following the flow of the front.
Stella nodded and fetched a piece of sheer fabric, carefully placing in over the newly draped back.
"We can hide the attachment here and here", she suggested, pinning a few roses made from tulle to the sides.
"With transparent snaps" Guinivere agreed.
"Of course we need a few more roses now over here and here, too."
"And here", Stella added, gesturing at the freshly draped back of the skirt.
"A butt rose?", her boss giggled. Ot was not a no, so Stella began shifting the fabric around.
The big rose allowed for additional attachment point of the newly created train.
"Mhmm", Guinivere hummed as she inspected the final design.
"We of course need more floral appliqués around the borders now. Perhaps some silk petals falling down, too"
Guinivere walked around the mannequin and began smiling.
"I will take some pictures and ask the client for their opinion."
