26) Winter Forest

The air was chilly as Freita walked, and the wind buffeted her with increasing force as she ascended the ridge of the hill.

It was a shame, she thought, that Aerius had developed the way it had. Other planets, cold climates came with numerous trees, such as Earth's taiga. Yet on Aerius, a combination of magic and lower axial tilt had led the planet to develop separate zones that were wildly alien to one another, and allowed for the only landscape that routinely received snow to be purely tundra and glacier. What an injustice the natural processes had done to the planet, that rare was the sight of snow on evergreen boughs.

Admittedly, that was probably why humans had imported technically invasive species such as their fir and pine trees. She couldn't exactly blame them, even if she had heard a lot of rants from those native to the Frozen Plains about how the trees had impacted their environment. They were so pretty and it was such a deep relief to her to see green. So she couldn't really begrudge the humans the act of bringing green to the tundra. Even she sighed with contentment every time she crested the hilltop and beheld the sea of snow-covered green below. (Besides, humans went a bit nuts without plants, if she remembered her studies right - so it was fine, fine, fine, she would just... pretend it wasn't causing issues for some of the local wildlife. If trees weren't suitable here then they wouldn't be able to grow here, right?)
