Cowcap Care??

Silque stared down at the small creature in her arms and briefly wondered how she got to this point. 

It all started with a customer earlier that day, who had seemed to take a liking to her. They asked her about any crazy stories she had about working as a maid, such as strange customer requests. She obliged by telling them about a customer who once asked her to piss on the floor. The customer stared at her, wide eyed, and commented how if they were in her position, they would ‘have a cow’ about it. 

Silque didn’t know what cows had to do with the situation, but the customer was nice enough that she thought she should follow their advice. She asked her manager Koko about where she could get a cow, and Koko had very helpfully told her about a ranch in Aerius that frequently adopted pets, with one of those being Cowcaps. 

The ranch owners were very kind and helpful, and thankfully they didn’t question why she wanted the creature, and instead just gave her tips on how to care for one. Apparently Cowcaps preferred ‘foliage’ to eat, but Silque didn’t know what that meant. Upon a brief internet search, all she could find were pictures of green plants. The words were too much and too big for her to understand, but thankfully the images made the meaning clear enough. 

“So you like to eat salads? Why didn’t they just say so?” Silque looked down at the Cowcap in her arms. Thankfully she knew how to make salads, as it was on the menu at the cafe. As soon as she was home, Silque took her new pet to the kitchen and sat it on a chair as if it were a customer. Then, she carefully crafted a salad for it. 

“What kind of dressing would you like?” Silque turned to ask the Cowcap, who stared blankly back at her. Oh, so it was the silent type… she had customers like that, as infrequent as they were. “Um… is a regular vinaigrette okay?” The Cowcap did not protest, so Silque proceeded to add it to the dish. 

“All done!” Silque proudly presented the salad to the Cowcap, who immediately started eating it without a care in the world. “I’m so glad you like it!” 

Silque’s phone buzzed, and she checked to see a text from Koko. “Oh, right, my lunch break is almost over.” She glanced back at the Cowcap, waiting patiently as it finished its salad. As soon as it was done, she picked it up and teleported back to the cafe. 

“Welcome back!” Koko greeted her. “What’s that you have with you?” She knew that Silque had been asking about cows earlier, but she hadn’t really expected her to show up to work an hour later with one in hand. 

“Koko, look!” Silque beamed, holding up her new pet. “A customer earlier told me that I needed to have a cow to deal with strange customers, so I got one!” 

“That’s… great!” Koko smiled, completely dumbfounded. “I’m so happy for you!” It was true; so long as Silque was happy, she was happy, even if she had no idea what was going on. “What are you going to name it?”

Silque paused, looking down at the creature in her arms. She considered what she knew about it to give it a proper name. “Salad?” 

The Cowcap stared back at her blankly. 

“Yep, Salad!”
