It's Baking Time

Halo sung quietly to herself as she drew jars of ingredients down from the kitchen cabinets. Flour made with ground up fairy mushrooms, crystal mushroom dust, and baking soda were the dry ingredients. From the refrigerator, she withdrew blushing milk, some eggs, and several fruits and mushrooms. The last thing was already on the counter - bananas that were getting ready to go bad.

She mashed the bananas in a bowl first, and then spent time chopping the mushrooms and fruits into thin slices. The sliced fairy mushrooms, crystal mushrooms, and flowering mushrooms would be studded throughout the loaf of bread she planned to bake, while the fruits (mango and different berries) would decorate the top and go alongside it.

Then it was time to begin mixing the bread dough. That was simple enough - she had memorized her father’s recipe for it, although she preferred using the mashed bananas to the cowcap butter he liked to use. Before she started mixing, though, she made sure to turn the oven on so it would preheat to the correct temperature while she mixed.

During the process of mixing it, she poured the mushroom slices into it, and kept on mixing the ingredients till the consistency looked right.

All was ready once she poured it into the loaf pan - she pressed the fruits into the top of it, and then it was ready to go into the oven, just as it beeped.

Once it went in, she set a timer, and began to tidy the kitchen. Ingredients went back into the fridge and cabinets, she wiped the counter down, and put the mixing bowl into the dishwasher.

All that was left to do was wait.

Well, minus all the other things she needed to do, of course.

She tidied things around the living quarters while she waited, fins flared and alert for the eventual beep. When it came, she hurried to the kitchen to turn the oven off and ease the bread out of the oven, so she could get it out onto one of their cooling racks.

It had to rest still, but the smell was wonderful - she would definitely enjoy eating this for snacks after she’d done her work with the mushrooms today…
