Not the Puppy Eyes!

Genevieve knew she had to be careful as she crept into the kitchen.

She opened the refrigerator with exceeding caution, trying to keep it as silent as possible. The same was true of the drawer she reached her hand into.

If there had been an onlooker, they could have been forgiven for drawing the understandable conclusion that she was not supposed to be in the kitchen. That was not true, really - she owner the mansion she lived in, and she was perfectly allowed to come and go as she pleased.

There was just one tiny problem, that was all, and her ears were alert to listen for that problem as she closed the drawer and then refrigerator once more with painstaking slowness, every fiber of her being alert…

Nothing so far.

Maybe she could get away with this…

Maybe.

She moved to the corner of the counters now, knowing it offered her the best protection if she was heard, and began to - with painstaking care again - unwrap her prize.

It was a truly decadent and creamy cheese, and she closed her eyes as she opened her mouth for it, savoring it as she ate it. It tasted truly divine on top of some crackers or even bread, especially when paired with fruits.

Unfortunately, she did not dare to risk eating it so nicely.

Hearing the unmistakable sound of claws on the wooden floor, she abandoned caution, shoving as much cheese into her mouth as she possibly could.

"Cheese?"

Biscotti's word - said in her own voice - still managed to startle her, and she made the mistake of looking.

Her summon had truly the saddest expression on her face. She had sat a few feet from Genevieve, and both her tail and eyes were unmistakably sorrowful. Slowly, her nose drew down towards the floor.

Genevieve simply could not bear the sadness, even though she desperately had wanted the cheese to herself. Sighing deeply, she gave in, and placed the rest of the cheese on the ground in front of Biscotti, who swallowed it swiftly.

"More cheese?" Biscotti asked, wagging her tail, all happiness again.

Genevieve was so fucking doomed.
