Baking Time
"I'm bored", Momme sighed and earned a look of disbelief from Snorre. The cowcaps were doing well in the greenhouse, but while it did reduce Emma's need for attention, it increased the amount of work that needed to be put into caretaking. In addition, the menagerie of other pets living with them in the blue tower kept increasing as well. There was hardly a trip to Aerius that didn't result in a new member of the household. As Snorre tried to figure out how Momme could even begin to feel bored, he caught the hint of a grin in his boyfriend's face.
"What's your plan?", he asked. Outside, underneath a dark grey cover of clouds, harsh winds were whirling up the snow and shaking the barely visible trees. It was the perfect weather to stay indoors.
"Cookies", Momme decided.
"Today is a day for cookies."
Snorre nodded in agreement.
Without additional words needed, they began clearing the big kitchen table and gathering ingredients. Although Snorre had no idea what kind of cookies Momme intended to do, there were basics that barely ever changed. Flour, eggs, sugar, and butter were a save bet. Then he noticed the oat flakes on the table and smiled.
"Do you need chocolate, too?", he asked, already at the staircase leading down to the pantry.
"Mhm", Momme answered, already filling the mixing bowl with the ingredients. He didn't need to measure the ingredients, it was a recipe he knew by heart and had made a few alterations to it. He could already tell when mixing the dough what needed to be added. When the texture and color was to his liking, he placed blobs of it all across the baking tray, making them as flat as possible.
Much like he didn't follow strict measurements, Momme also didn't follow a strict baking time. He trusted his intuition and also checked on the color of the cookie to make sure they would come out perfect.
The final step was gluing two cookies together with a sufficient layer of molten chocolate and to let everything cool down for a few moments.
Needless to say, Momme also made sure his cookies were perfect by doing taste tests throughout the baking and assembling process.
