Prepare the Garden

While Aurelia’s usual job was related to clothing, given that she was Iola’s seamstress, it wasn’t abnormal for her to help out with other tasks where needed. Today was one of those days; Iola wanted a new garden, and since Aurelia didn’t have any outfits to work on currently, she decided to help Blossom out. It would be a lot of work, after all, and it was always good to learn new skills. Who knows, maybe she could create her own garden at home with Carina once she learned how to do it. That thought alone was motivation enough for her to help out.

“Hey Blossom,” Aurelia greeted as she stepped outside the castle.

“Aurelia!” Blossom smiled. “I’m so glad you decided to help.”

“Of course, I’m always willing to help.” Aurelia gestured to where Blossom had placed stakes in the ground in a rectangular pattern, designating where the garden would be. “So, where do we start?”

“First we need to dig up all the weeds in this area,” Blossom leaned down to one of the weeds. “Watch closely, you need to pick them out by their roots or else they’ll grow back, and then we’ll have trouble growing anything but weeds in this garden.” Blossom demonstrated pulling out the weeds while making sure to get the roots. “It takes more effort then just plucking the stems, but it’s very important.”

Aurelia nodded. “Let me try.” She knelt down next to Blossom, digging her fingers in the soil so she could grab the weed by its root and yank it out. It did take a bit more effort than she was anticipating, but she seemed to have done it right at least, as Blossom was nodding approvingly next to her.

“That’s great, do it just like that. We’ll be done in no time if we work together.”

“I hope so,” Aurelia giggled. “Should we make a pile for all the weeds we pull out?”

“We can do that, or if you want to get a garbage bag that we could put them all in, that works too.” Blossom suggested.

“That’s a good idea, I’ll go get one.” Aurelia stood and headed back inside the castle. There were trash bags in the nearest utility closet, but before heading back, Aurelia paused. It was a hot, sunny day today, and she knew that she and Blossom would be working outside for quite some time. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to get some water bottles while she was here. Aurelia made her way to the kitchen and opened the beverage fridge, easily locating the water bottles and taking out two. Satisfied, she finally made her way back outside.

“I thought we could use some water,” Aurelia announced as she made it back to the garden-in-progress. She set down one bottle next to Blossom, then set hers on the ground as she shook out the garbage bag. Finally, she leaned down to place the pile of weeds Blossom had started into the bag.

“Perfect, thank you.” Blossom smiled. “I just know this garden will be the best one Iola has seen yet.”

Aurelia nodded. “We’ll make sure of it.”
