I believe Amalia and Mirrani Amryssa are the two behind Deja’s disappearance. In this instance, I believe that Amalia is Mirrani’s older sister. “Amalia” is a mysterious figure who has no official image for (from what I could find on the Masterlists and Key Characters lists) so we don’t know what she looks like to compare the two.

During the first week of our investigation, we discovered a “Scrap of Dark Fabric.” Abella is the one who tells us that it is a fabric from the Enchanted Vale region. In addition, she outright tells us that the last time she worked with this fabric was for Amalia before “that incident.” I believe that the “incident” is referring to the Dex-Human War. Per Mirrani’s profile, her older sister was born before the war which means that the Scrap could be from Amalia’s outfit that Abella made for her.

Week 2 of the investigation gave us the Broken Bottle and the Destroyed Book. We later learn from the Enchanted Elixir’s owner that the Vial originally held Tears of the Damned. This is also when we get the clue “To find what you seek, you must look for what lies beneath.” This I believe can have two meanings. The first refers to the hidden passageways/tunnels that we discover are located underneath Verdant Castle (which we get the Blueprints during Week 3 courtesy of Aerius Archives). This is also how the culprit(s) were able to steal the statue without anyone noticing.

This bottle is also why I believe Mirrani is one of the culprits. It has been shown over the course of the investigation that Mirrani is struggling when it comes to potion-making. In addition, her profile explains she has an estranged relationship with her parents for reasons not disclosed. And while she never met her sister (according to the profile), she likes to think the sister is proud of her.

I believe Amalia learned about her sister somehow and wanted revenge against Deja. Why the revenge? I believe it has something to do with the War that happened. Even though Deja passed during said war, it’s certainly possible that there are those who still blame her for one reason or another for the war. That said, Amalia approached Mirrani after learning she worked making Elixirs. She then had Mirrani make a Tears of the Damned as a way to blame corrupted dextroluma for what would eventually happen. However, things may not have gone as intended, and the Tears ended up breaking near the Strawberry Gardens on some wood which is why the Blight Mushroom came into existence there. And of course, you can’t leave a broken bottle around so it was taken elsewhere to be disposed of but perhaps was overlooked. As for why Mirrani would go along with this… because she wants someone from her family to recognize her and be close to her.

Meanwhile also during Week 2, the Destroyed Book was discovered at Nevermore Bookstore which we then later learned was chewed on by a humanoid of some sorts. It was also noted that during Week 2, there was extra trash around the shop which was very unlike Vincent and Keir. I believe that the Destroyed Book was one of many books that was used during the creation of the papier-mache Verdant Castle in the Trash Kingdom. And perhaps the person “paid for” the book by giving them trash instead of crystals.

As to how this papier-mache castle is involved… I believe it was Amalia going “you’re not as strong as you think” by making an exact replica of the Castle and then putting the Deja statue in said replica. The statue of course was then messed with to make it look like perhaps some racoon lockette or other racoon-like person decided to mess with Iola’s mind.

While this is the theory I decided to go with, there is one true theory that transcends time and space to be true no matter what: Gulp. And the dextures.
