Medicine

Dextroluma are known through much of the space-faring galaxy for their advanced medicine, which encompasses both scientific means and magical means.

Some of the most well-known achievements of Aerius’ medical system include:

- The ability for ‘same-sex’ and most ‘infertile’ parents to reproduce with a partner with medical assistance.

- Genital construction surgeries that are able to replicate a large number of different types of genitalia regardless of what an individual originally possessed and to give it most functions.

- Pills made to treat common ‘small’ illnesses similar to the cold and flu in most species that Dextroluma know.  The average time these pills take to clear an individual of disease varies, but the average duration is twenty-four hours.

- There are intra-muscular injections that can be given to treat auto-immune disorders and manage their impacts on the body.

- The ability to grow replacement limbs and connect them to the body.  While the procedure is still classified as experimental for dextroluma, it has been perfected for use on humans and auratails.  Not every individual wants this, of course, especially as the surgeries can be rather painful and it does take nearly a year to grow a new limb, as well as the fact there can be complications from attaching new nerve endings.  It is still experimental for dextroluma as there have been unexpected complications relating to the effects of mushrooms on their bodies and it may require some new developments in magic to work fully for Dextroluma.  (Conspiracy theorists believe this is the cause of Fatal Damage in some Dextroluma, even though that was well-documented millennia ago).

This is, of course, not an exhaustive list.  However, it is important to note that neither science nor magic nor their combinations can eradicate disability, especially not the types of disability that an individual has at birth, while disabilities acquired after birth may be fixable to differing degrees, depending on what happened.

Some medical developments that affect disability aids include:

- Patches that mimic the membrane of fins that can be applied to fins to assist dextroluma who have hearing loss related to fin damage.

- Prosthetic fins can be added to limb prosthetics to assist with balance, though they cannot hear like a normal fin.

- All-Terrain wheelchairs with a magical cushioning system that protects the user from the uncomfortable bumps and shaking that can come with using standard wheelchairs on uneven ground.  This also offers support to individuals who would otherwise require highly customized chairs and be devastated by their loss.

- There are a number of potions that are made to help manage the effects of various auto-immune disorders that do not yet have an injectable science-backed treatment.
