Reproduction

One might infer, from the prior discussion of anatomy, that Dextroluma reproduce similarly to humans.  This is generally accurate enough to how they were when the species was overall younger and lacked the advanced technologies they do now.

However, Dextroluma have, through both science and magic, developed several ways to allow partners to conceive, whether or not they have the configuration of one partner having testes and a penis of some sort and another partner having a uterus, ovaries, cervix, and vagina (or cloaca).  These advances allow lesbian, gay, and most infertile Dextroluma to create children that are genetically descended from both parents who raise them.  There are additionally some spells that purport to allow more than two parents to genetically contribute to a child, however critical reviews are mixed on the efficacy of these spells and scientific technologies have had difficulty replicating them.

Intersex and trans dextroluma do not typically face difficulties accessing procedures to have children with any partner(s) they wish, as discrimination against them has never been normalized on Aerius.  Some humans did impart their views to some Dextroluma, but there is generally backlash when those ideas are voiced.

The only Dextroluma unable to reproduce even with magical or medical assistance are those who have contracted necrosis.  Although being infertile would normally not be a barrier to reproduction with magical or medical assistance, necrosis presents unique barriers that have prevented success.  Embryos created with the genetic material of a parent with necrosis always seem to fail, unless the material was collected before their parent’s infection.  It is unlikely that this issue will be solved anytime soon.

Abortion is widely accepted and available in Dextroluma society.  It is seen as an important part of reproductive freedom, which is of course something the medical establishment of Aerius has long worked towards.  Reproductive coercion is strongly frowned upon.

Dextroluma are also able to reproduce with more than just other dextroluma!  At present, they are only known to naturally hybridize with Nunukes, which is a reason for their species’ closeness.  For more information on Nunuluma, please read this from the toyhou.se world.

That said, they do also hybridize with another species in a sense.  Dexettes only come about when the soul of a deceased Dextroluma comes in contact with a shell in the Heartlands, and are inorganic and more akin to Lockettes than the Dextroluma.  Still, they are kin and close.  The Dexette toyhou.se world is here, and will eventually contain more information.

Humans and Dextroluma are reproductively incompatible.
