The study of saura is heavily restricted within most spheres of Maquette these days, and for good reason.  The ‘research’ humans did upon unwilling sauras that were captured within spell jars remains horrific, and it is prohibited to trap saura for any purposes.

Research of it primarily comes from magical work done on willing lockettes.  This work typically involves runework and a mix of magical and scientific devices to measure different forces, and the specifics of it are far beyond a simple primer such as this one.

This research, however - and, regrettably, even some of the human ‘research’ - have allowed some knowledge about saura to be discovered, and have enabled some clearer definitions of this mysterious essence that is at the core of every lockette.

Simply put, it is easier to define saura by what it is not than by what it is.
