Health
As mentioned in an earlier section, lockettes must replenish their saura regularly.
For almost all lockettes, they may replenish their saura by eating or using their summons.
Two lockettes may share their saura with each other. This is often done to cement a personal bond, or as a form of wound care, and may be done multiple times, including with multiple lockettes. (It has some cultural practices related to it, which will be mentioned towards the end of the next section). Saura sharing works best between like sauras - inked lockettes cannot absorb any other type of saura, and other types of saura cannot absorb inked saura. Typically, the lockette(s) sharing will draw out some of their saura - magically for most, physically for the inked, and send it through the receiving lockette’s keyhole.
Possessed lockettes may steal saura from other lockettes. They are capable of magically drawing out the saura of another lockette - typically through the mouth or keyhole - and take it into their shell - typically through the mouth or keyhole as well.
Malformed lockettes may only replenish their saura by taking it from another lockette, or stealing the life energy of another creature by the same method.
Replenishing saura is not necessarily needed on a daily basis - it is most important after an injury. Replenishing saura may allow a lockette’s shell to repair itself without need for prosthetics, if they are in a good mental state and portions of the shell have not been completely destroyed (such as by a bomb) or come detached from the saura (some saura will shed a limb when it is cut off, while other saura will maintain connection despite the cut). Most forms of physical medicine, short of prosthetics, are not applicable to lockettes.
Mental health is crucial to lockette health. Long term depression may lead to portions of a lockette’s shell disintegrating, for example. Treatment of mental health problems is relatively similar to what it is for organics - different types of therapy are quite common. While lockettes do not typically experience the correct effects from organic medicines, due to lacking an actual nervous system or brain, there exist magically made medicines that can be digested by saura.
Lockettes can experience most mental illnesses that an organic species would be able to experience. Additionally possessions may be mistaken for some mental illnesses, such as a lockettes with a conscious possession being misdiagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. While symptoms and difficulties faced by a lockette may resemble a mental illness, these conditions cannot be treated in the same manner. Medications do not help possessed lockettes, but therapy may be effective, particularly for those with conscious possessions - some couples’ counsellors also will see possessed clients to help them form a more functional relationship to their possession.
