Traits
Two or Less Horns (Common)
All dextroluma possess horns. Most of them only have one or two horns total, which is all they need and is sufficient to use their natural healing easily. Horns can be any shape or size.
Three or More Horns (Rare)
All dextroluma possess horns. Some of them possess more than two horns, although it is not believed to increase their natural healing ability. Horns can be any shape or size.
Mushroom Horns (Regional)
Mushrooms of any shape, size, and color can grow in place of a Forest Dextroluma’s horns. If, for some reason, you feel inclined to nibble on your own horns, they will grow back!
Shell Horns (Regional)
Shell horns include not only shells of all colors, shapes, and sizes, but also coral. Research indicates that these types of horns have provided Ocean Dextroluma with easy camouflage, historically, and now they are delighted in for their unique beauty.
Bone Horns (Regional)
Bone is the core of all Dextroluma horns, but it seems that in Desert Dextroluma, this can reach a unique level, where skin doesn’t grow over the bone core, but more bone does, whether in segments reminiscent of vertebrae or a more smooth surface.
Magma Horns (Regional)
For Dextroluma who live in the Volcanic Region, magma is nothing to worry about - especially not when it can become part of the body. Researchers believe that Magma horns give the Dextroluma who have them a higher tolerance towards heat that helped them adjust to such a hot and arid climate. (Magma horns that a Dextroluma is born with usually develop their characteristic heat shortly after birth).
Rock Horns (Regional)
Rock Horns seem to have originally served a purpose similar to the Ocean’s coral and shell horns, allowing Dextroluma greater camouflage in their region. While often solely composed of rock, they can also often be seen featuring other components - ore veins, and even bone replicating fossils have been seen as components of rock horns!
[Rules note: On a trait sheet, a rock horn with fossils would be recorded as using both Desert and Mountain horn materials, which is fine as they are part of the same regional group].
Ice Horns (Regional)
Strangely, ice horns do not at all melt or lose their shape, but they keep the beauty of an ice sculpture rather well. These horns are sometimes mistaken for glass, as they are almost invisible to some!
Wispy Horns (Regional)
Air Region Dextroluma often resemble their environment in a very literal way! Their horns seem to be textured like clouds, and wisps of them can stream away from the main body of the horn even though it cannot dissipate. Wispy horns are always either skin or fin/glow colored and can be freckled.
Crystal Horns (Regional)
Crystal horns have long been one of the most coveted traits among Dextroluma, in large part due to the remoteness of the Crystal region and the incredible difficulty involved in reaching it for most Dextroluma. When the devices to teleport through and to the region were first invented, the crystal horns (and halos) were the only keys. While there are other keys now to use them, Crystal Horns are still seen as quite exclusive due to the nature of their region. Crystal horns always either match the skin or fin/glow color.
[Rules note: Unlike most regional traits, a Dextroluma who is genetically from the Crystal Region will always have Crystal horns.]
Floating Horns (Regional)
In the observation of Hyperspace Dextroluma, researchers observed a curious phenomenon with their fins and horns. On occasion - sometimes after birth, sometimes much later in life - a Hyperspace Dextroluma’s fins and/or horns will painlessly detach from their body and float next to or above it. Sometimes the fins get confused as a new fin type because they look odd when detached from the body! Floating fins can be any of the common or rare shapes we provide, and horns, as usual can be any shape as well. They float close to the Dextroluma as though magnetized, and they cannot be too far away.
[Rules note: The common version of this trait requires all fins or horns to match - i.e. you cannot have one floating fin and one attached, they must both float if you use it.]
Wooden Horns (Regional)
One of the earliest recognized regional traits, it is quite common for Dextroluma genetically of the Flower Fields to have natural wooden horns - sometimes grown over time, sometimes present from birth. These horns can grow flowers or leaves and even match the seasonal changes of the natural trees they relate to. These horns must be existing, natural wood only.
Unique Material Horns (Seasonal)
On rare occasions, a Dextroluma may be born with horns that are an abnormal material. These are generally things not found naturally in the world, such as glass or metal, and can be filled with liquids.
Horns (Mutation)
On occasion, a Lockette manifests with horns. These horns can be anywhere on the shell and of any size. They may also be made of anything, though it is more typical to see ones made of skin, bone, or scales. The horns may represent a clue at the origin of their saura, though there is little conclusive evidence to this supposition.
Demon Horns (Common)
It is often suggested that the concept of demons takes its name from these horns, rather than the other way around, due to the frequency with which it is seen on kipitin. These horns are generally on the taller side, with a slight angle inwards towards the tips. The amount of scattering on them varies, but there is always at least some of the horn missing. Demon horns can only be placed on the forehead/headband area.
All kipitin horns can be made from glass, metal, or crystal, and there is no rarity for any material option.
Sliced Horns (Common)
These frequently seen horns typically have a more curved appearance than demon horns, but are most distinctive due to their style of scattering, which always looks as though slices have been taken out of the horn. The amount of scattering on them varies, but there is always at least one slice missing. Sliced horns can only be placed on the forehead/headband area.
All kipitin horns can be made from glass, metal, or crystal, and there is no rarity for any material option.
Swirl Horns (Common)
These frequently seen horns are sometimes considered to resemble a tornado or smoke in general. They typically have a base that starts out similarly to demon or sliced horns, but then the shape begins to spiral up, with various pieces scattered apart from each other. The amount of scattering on them varies, but there is always at least some of the horn missing. Swirl horns can only be placed on the forehead/headband area.
All kipitin horns can be made from glass, metal, or crystal, and there is no rarity for any material option.
Lyre Horns (Common)
These frequently seen horns resemble the shape of a lyre frame. Their typical scattering often takes the form of missing slices, but it’s not unheard of for them to be differently scattered. The amount of scattering on them varies, but there is always at least some of the horn missing. Lyre horns can only be placed on the headband area.
All kipitin horns can be made from glass, metal, or crystal, and there is no rarity for any material option.
Shattered Horns (Common)
These are the least intact horn to be regularly seen on kipitins. Shattered horns usually have a somewhat intact base… but after that, it’s anyone’s guess what the horn shape could have been if it had been intact. Only tiny shards remain. The amount of scattering on them varies, but there is never enough to create a shape. Shattered horns can be placed on any part of the head, minus the face.
All kipitin horns can be made from glass, metal, or crystal, and there is no rarity for any material option.
Ram Horns (Rare)
Although ram horns are less commonly seen on kipitins, they are considered to be a fairly standard shape. They can be spread out, like in this example, or more compacted and closer in to the head. The amount of scattering on them varies, and typically takes the form of slices, but they always have a curve you might see on a ram’s horns. Ram horns can be placed on any part of the head, minus the face, and can point in any direction.
All kipitin horns can be made from glass, metal, or crystal, and there is no rarity for any material option.
