Traits
Horned Fins (Rare)
Horned fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized by three spines with the top piece curving up, and two pieces of webbing with edges that have large ‘u’ shaped curves pointing in towards the body. This fin type is generally of medium opacity.
Frill Fins (Rare)
Frill fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized by a flexible spine and a singular large piece of fin that folds into ruffles along the bottom. This fin type is generally of lower opacity.
Spino Fins (Rare)
Spino fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized by four long spines and three large pieces of webbing whose edges are shaped like a ‘v’ that points in towards the body. It is believed that long ago, this fin shape proved useful for communication among Abyssal dwellers, due to the large expanses of glowing fin, and that this is why it is only found in Abyssal bloodlines. This fin type is generally more opaque.
Fallen Fins (Rare)
Fallen fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized by four spines and three narrow pieces of webbing with edges shaped like a ‘u’ that point in towards the body. This fin type is generally more opaque.
Elven Fins (Rare)
Elven fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized most strongly by the two dramatically curling outer spines. They possess a total of four spines and three pieces of webbing whose edges have ‘u’ shaped curves that point in towards the body. This fin type is generally of medium opacity.
Draped Fins (Rare)
Draped fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized by a complete lack of cartilage and their generally thin and flexible nature. While they can fold into ruffles at the bottom like frill fins, it is not particularly characteristic of the type. These fins generally tend to be on the longer side, and can be tied up into bows and knots without any pain for the Dextroluma who have them, which some prefer either for style or to avoid tripping over their own fins. This fin type is generally of low opacity.
Satin Fins (Rare)
Satin fins are a less frequently observed fin type across Aerius, and are characterized by their two dramatically curved spines and three semi-rigid fins whose edges are slightly ruffled.
Unique Fin Placement (Rare)
All dextroluma possess a pair of fins on their head (where a human’s ears would go). Some dextroluma may have no other fins beside these, or have fins grow on other places such as the torso, the neck and the head.
Three or More Horns (Rare)
All dextroluma possess horns. Some of them possess more than two horns, although it is not believed to increase their natural healing ability. Horns can be any shape or size.
Unique Horn Placement (Rare)
Some dextroluma’s horns grow in unusual places - some have horns all over their body, on their tails, and some may even lack horns on their head, with their horns located exclusively on the body.
Custom Shape (Rare)
Sometimes, Lockettes are found sporting more complex charms than the typical geometric ones. These can take an incredible variety of shapes - bones, anatomical hearts, skulls, shells, flowers, pinecones… These charms can also appear to be broken.
Custom Collar (Rare)
Some Lockette collars take more complicated forms. These can appear to be all kinds of things - a necklace, a gorget, bandages, a harness, or even a stack of multiple band collars.
Two or More Keyholes (Rare)
A keyholes purpose is the regulation of internal saura, and some Lockettes find themselves with many of those. While this is commonly believed to be related to larger sizes of saura taking shells that are not large enough for them, there’s no conclusive evidence of that. Lockettes with multiple keyholes often have to spend more effort on ensuring they keep their saura replenished than those with only one.
Three or More Summons (Rare)
All Lockettes possess at least one summon, but some Lockettes go far beyond that. The quantity of summons are set at manifestation, and always emblazoned with the Lockette’s charm in some fashion. They are summoned from the collar.
Other Summons (Rare)
Some Lockettes manifest with a summon that takes a non-weapon form, such as a treadmill, a set of cutlery, or a vase. These summons may be able to manifest magical effects, including ones useful in combat, and the Lockette may still be able to use them in a combative fashion physically, but that is not always the case either.
Fragmented (Rare)
A fragmented shell is one that has experienced damage that broke the exterior of the shell to reveal the hollow area where the Lockette’s saura resides. The fragmentation can take differing forms, from lost limbs to cracks to missing sections of shell, and even to aesthetic things such as having a series of hearts punched into the shell. Saura connects pieces of the shell even after fragmentation, so it is not unusual to see a fragmented Lockette with a hand floating but their forearm missing. Fragmentation can represent a dangerous risk to a Lockette’s quantity of saura and ability to regularly replenish it, and it is typical for Lockettes to seek prosthetics after an injury to prevent this, or to use some material to cover smaller holes or cracks. Of course, for their own reasons, some Lockettes will not seek prosthetics or covers, or will choose ones that do not fully prevent the loss of saura from their fragmentation. It is generally impossible for a Lockette to survive having more than 50% of their original shell fragmented, as the shell just no longer possesses the capacity to retain the saura.
Notched Ears (Rare)
These uncommonly seen ears typically have a long and pointed shape, and are characterized by an unusual feature - their version of scattering does not include pieces floating around the ears, and they more or less simply appear to have been notched with a few holes present. These ears can be placed on the sides of the head, where human ears would go.
Anubis Ears (Rare)
These uncommonly seen ears typically have a long and pointed shape, resembling a Great Dane or German Shepard when they sit on top of the head. The amount of scattering may vary, but there are usually at least a few holes in the ear and small pieces floating around it. These ears can be placed on either the sides of the head, where human ears would go, or on the top of the head, where cat ears or dog ears might sit.
Folded Ears (Rare)
These infrequently seen ears typically have a long and pointed shape, with the exterior of the ear being visible from both sides of the ear as it folds in on itself. The extent to which it folds may vary. The amount of scattering may vary, but there are usually at least a few holes in the ear and small pieces floating around it. These ears can be placed on the sides of the head, where human ears would go.
Elegant Ears (Rare)
These rarely seen ears greatly resemble ovis ears - but doubled. Like ovis ears, they also usually have texture on the inside of the ear. The amount of scattering may vary, but there are usually at least a few holes in the ear and small pieces floating around it. These ears can be placed on the sides of the head, where human ears would go.
