Just Keep Jarring, Just Keep Jarring...
With the three sleeping creatures safely tucked away in the hut, Amaranthe took the opportunity to deal with her basket of newly harvested mushrooms. And mentally prepare to deal with people. Ew.
First things first though: spore harvesting and organizing. With a small scalpel in hand and many small bags, Ama began the most time-consuming part of her process and harvested as many spores as she possibly could. Some she would keep for herself since she intended on expanding her garden but most she intended to sell at the Festival. Normally she would say fuck it and pretend the spores didn’t exist and were just dirt, but since she was going out of her way to deal with people (ew), she might as well.
After cleaning each shroom, Ama organized them first by individual and clustered and then once again by type. After a quick cleaning of each one, Ama prepared the most difficult part which was the preservation. Some she would keep in her cooler chest, but most would not be.
The easiest method for Ama was pickling though most would argue about that. Pickling mushrooms was a fickle thing since the density and texture of each type of shroom impacts the end result; therefore, only a very few variety of shrooms would work. After jarring those selected shrooms, she placed them in jars before making the pickling liquid. Once that was complete, she poured it into each jar and tightly sealed them. She made a label for each jar before setting them aside.
The annoying method for Ama was the drying method. Skewers, stabbing each mushroom and then setting them up around the fire… rotating them occasionally to ensure an even drying process.
While she was babysitting the drying shrooms, Ama handled the remaining shrooms, which at that point was not many at all. And they were mostly ugly looking ones. Still edible of course but ones that people (ew) most likely wouldn’t buy. So those would be creature food.
As if on queue, Ama heard the wobble wobble of Cherry waking up… and waking up the other two as well.
Sigh.
Maybe if she just ignored them, they’d leave her alone in peace.
She thought futilely knowing that that would never happen.
